SN Raina is presently working as NASI Senior Scientist in the Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, Noida. Before that he served as teaching faculty of Botany in the University of Jodhpur (1970-1984) and University of Delhi (1984-2014). His teaching and research interests are Molecular Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Systematics, Plant Breeding, Biosystematics, DNA Fingerprinting, and Genome Size, Organization and Evolution. He made significant research contributions in chromosome variation and evolution, induced polyploidy, hybridization, chromosome repatterning, seed proteins, cytochemistry, characterization of nuclear, chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA by melting profiles, cot curve reassociation kinetics and multiple DNA markers, gene expression, fluorescence in situ hybridization, multicolor fluorescence in situ hybridization and genomic in situ hybridization. He contributed substantially towards better often novel understanding of the size, structure, function, organisation and evolution of both fundamental and applied value of plant genome in general and of several ornamental, cereal, oil seed, plantation, trees and food legume taxa. He has published more than 200 research papers in the reputed journals. He is recipient of several prestigious awards and recognitions.
