Vegetables and spices form the
backbone of Horticulture. As the spectrum covered by these crops is too wide,
the students had to study different book, assimilate their contents and prepare
suitable notes. Often this task is not easy and in case of less time and
shortage of books it is really impossible. Keeping these facts in mind we had
made an effort to make available a book suitable for preparation and revision
for competitive examinations, at the same time maintaining academic rigour and
faculty accuracy. All the chapters in the book had been properly covered
according to their families and relative importance. Questions given in the
books are very relevant to the competitive examinations and most of the
previous year questions asked in different exams had been incorporated. The
appendix given at the end carries vast information on different aspects of
vegetables and spices in short tabular form. This book fulfill the need of a
good reference-cum text book for the student community.
I express my sincere thanks to
scientists from ICAR institutes/SAUs for their inputs in terms of material
collection, compilation and correction. Every effort has been made to ensure
that the information collected from various sources such as individuals,
institutions, organizations and publications are accurate. We hope that this
book will be a useful reference material for the teachers, practitioners and
students searching their careers in ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural
Universities, State Agriculture/Horticulture Departments and for competitions
like State Public Services/UPSE/ARS/JRF/SRF/NET along with entrance
examinations for B.Sc ,M.Sc and Ph.D Degree in Horticulture .
